Hydroponic Water Pump

The hydroponic water pump I used for my home hydroponic system was actually an aquarium pump. Many people have these lying around the house, if not, they are available at almost any supermarket or pet store for twenty dollars or less. To convert this into a hydroponic water pump I just glued hose into the outbound spigot. There is also an aerator line which I just chose to glue shut to keep as much pressure in the system as possible.

The aquarium tubing is inexpensive and they sell T connectors which can be used to route the lines to each planter in a system. I think I hit the maximum number of splits in the tubing at around sixteen. The pump doesn't have enough power to go much beyond that, at least the way the system is configured right now.

The pump I used looks like this. The line running to the top is the aerator hose. The large opening below where the hose connects is the outbound spigot. I placed two pieces of tubing long enough to reach from the bottom to the top of the home hydroponic containers into the end of this spigot and used a glue gun to seal the tubes in.

Once the hydroponic water pump is sealed place it in the bottom of the container and run the tubing up to the top. Use the T connectors to split the tubing as necessary to reach all the planters in your system. If this is done reasonably well you should be able to pump water from the bottom of the container, through the connections, and into each planter. From there, the water should drip back down into the container and be cycled back through.
